I have all the answers and know which bit to shade but would like some clarification on one of the clues which is 50 across. The clue is 'Lousier sailor ending in trouble' and the answer is 'worse'. This is one of the clues where the cryptic indication omits reference to parts of the answer which are to be shaded in and in this clue I need to shade the W and the R but don't understand how the rest of the answer comes from the clue.

If anyone understands what I am on about perhaps they can explain it to me.

Thanks

ending in trouble = E (the last letter)

Thanks Jumbuck.

Am I right in thinking that I should be shading the W and the R in this clue? Where does the S come from?
I don't have the crossword so can't advise you on what to do
Question Author
Thanks anyway.
If you know you're supposed to shade the W and R, that leaves "OS E" which is sailor = Ordinary Seaman (OS) plus ending in troublE = E
