not very - in my opinion
does your name contain the initials "W M"?
5 great rock albums (none) evolutinary - With a fantastic glam rock image and then he sold all his fans down the river with Station to Station at which time he became a media darling and a musical nonentity to those of us who worshiped Ziggy and Alladin.
i would strongley say bowie was a mojor force in music in the 70s early 80s ,has been credited as major influence on many ,is true he re invented him self many times as he could ,but in record sales in both eras ,hes shown he has a keen eye and ear and on trends.its not about cds sold or downloads true ,but kinda does give hint how good he was.
i wonder sometimes how much influence Marc Bolan would have had and whether they would ever had formed something like the Flying Willboureys say when they had both mellowed and matured. I know Bowie was prolific at the start of his career, (after The Laughing Gnome at Decca of course) he appealed to the male music buying audience when teenyboppers were well catered for.
