You have asked the right person the right question, i've just passed my motorcycle test (passed on the 5th December). Where abouts do you live? I know a few people who are really good instructors.

diz, congrats by the way, enjoy riding and ride safely...x
There are 4 (if I remember correctly) types of motorcycle test (catergories); moped, light bike, standard and big bike. They are mostly self explanatory but if you wish to chat about it you can contact me via msn on [email protected] (it's far easier than me trying to explain on this forum).

hehe, i passed my test in Rotherham, I know someone who will get you through. He is the cheapest by far and also an ex police motorcycle instructor.

well done chuck, i passed my driving in rotherham, 8 years ago, i want what did you pay a lesson, did you have to hire a bike to learn on, or is it like learning to drive, when you use a company car
Well the first thing you have to do is take a CBT (Compulsory Basic Training) which usually last 5-6hours (depending on how confident/capable you are on a bike), MCT, who I trained with (01246 270056) charged me £95 which, includes the hire of the bike for the day (suzuki gs 125cc (a sound bike, I am also on first name terms with the person who services his machines so they are safe!)). If that wasn't good enough he always takes you to a Ducati motorbike shop and buys you lunch, charming fellow. The CBT and all the bike training is done in chesterfield, just off the A61 near the large roundabout (near the harly davidson motorcycle shop and crusader). After passing the CBT you are allowed to ride any vehicle with a BHP of 13.4 (or it might be 13.6BHP) or less (accompanied with L plates and the obvious (insurance, tax and the use of a helmet whilst riding). Thats part 1 of the operation, I will now write part 2 whilst you read this :)

Part 2, you decide what bike you want to ride in the furture (this is important because if you only want to ride something like a 250-400cc (anything upto or less than 33BHP) for a few years I'd advise you to take your standard motorbike module 1 and 2 (I will explain in detail later). The great this is that if you are over 17, after 2 years of passing your standard motorcycle test you are allowed to ride anything, you name it, ANYTHING!. If you are a bit of a need for speed person and want to get straight on a 1000cc beast then you would have to take the 'big bike' test which would require you to do the test on a 500cc (the cc of the bike is irrelevant, it's down to the kW outtage and BHP rating). So what is it you wish to take? I would advise sticking to a bike around 250 - 400cc like I intend to do (I pass the standard bike test).

i want to ride the big ninja bike, with full leathers and big speed eventually!!!! thanks diz, ur a star, im gonna look into this and let u know how i get on, thanks eddies for the link, very helpful too. id probably take the standard test and see what i shoulddo after that thank you again
As far as lessons are concerned they are £65 for 2 hours (you drive to the persons house, you get on the bike and he follows you/ or you follow him (he likes to make you follow him sometimes and talk to you via the radio headset so you can watch him and how he rides)). It cost me around £600 all in to pass my test from start to finish. If you want to do it and soon I'd suggest you book your motorcycle theory test ASAP and get it out of the way (It is like a car theory but a tiny bit harder and is valid for 2 years).

Suzie you won't get any cheaper than M.C.T. He is a one man instructor (shares the same name as me, Stuart (tell him I sent you hehe; thats if you use him ;p) and he is very calm and never get aggressive, raises his voice nor does he take more than 1 person out riding at a time. The great thing about the new style motorcycle test is that it is laid out in 2 modules:

Module 1: The Manoeuvring Test (http://www.1stopinstruction.com/media/photos
/module_1_right_circuit.jpg)

Module 2: The road test (self explantory, you ride around Rotherham (I was so nervous of this because I don't know Rotherham at all but the funny thing is you spent most of the 40minutes riding around back roads! EAAASY :D )

The downside, you have to pass module 1 before you can take module 2. I booked both on the same day, Had i failed module 1 I would of lost the money i paid for module 2.

Module 1 fee as of last month is £15.50
Module 2 fee (sit down for this one) £75 + £100 bike hire (I know it seems alot but you have to remember that you have to arrive at Stuarts house in Chesterfield then ride to Rotherham (great warm up for the test) which including traveling and the test takes around 3-4hours). So the bonus is if you risk taking both module 1 and 2 on the same day (within 45 - 60mins apart) you save having to go back and spending another £100 on bike hire.
