i have lost wireless connection on my laptop,message says to make sure that my wireless switch is on? how do i enable it ? there is no external switch, please help,

my wife just solved it,within 2 minutes after my trials all week, my lap top is a packard bell notebook and she said JUST TRY FN AND F1 TOGETHER and to my astonishment it worked, eureka moment,
