No, can't see it either. But if everyone is adopting the policy of not looking until they've finished, they are clearly struggling like I am!

I've been searching all the weekend with no success till now.I wonder if some of the comments last week about too many explicit hints being given have deterred the regulars from making their usual contributions. I hope not - in any case I too am totally baffled by this puzzle. I can't really see much merit in a puzzle which seems to require nearly all the clues to be cold-solved. And how to get a mere 17 clues to fill the vast grid seems well-nigh impossible!

Well, I have 11, possibly 12, out of 17 so far, which is enough to see the definition of X and to see how the grid could be filled. However, I think I'm going to need a couple more if I'm to fill it without a horrendous amount of trial and error!

Well I've got 10 of the clues solved and can see the principle on which the grid could be filled. but there are utter imponderables. For instance there is no way that can I see in which the 16 letter answer and the 10 letter answer can coexist in the same grid.

Have only got the 16 letter answer this evening, which I agree does narrow things down a bit! Must need anagrams - which it doesn't quite say in the rubric, but it won't work otherwise. Going to have to come back to it in the morning. Now have 13, possibly 14, so if the cold grey light of dawn doesn't help, I'm in big trouble!

I'm totally struggling too. I've only solved 9 so far and have made no progress since Sunday. I wish I could get the 16 letter one. Is it an anagram? I've been toying with this idea, but can't get it and have also got another idea, but that doesn't seem to be leading to much either!
