Well, there are various ways of setting them out according to what sort of job you're applying for and what your past experiences are. You could do a lot worse than nip down to your library and borrow one of the numerous books on the subject in order to find out what to put in them.
However, there are a couple of basic rules:
- Remember KISS! - Keep It Simple, Stupid! If you've got much more than a couple of pages, you've got too much. You need to pare everything down to basics.
- Similarly, unless you're aiming for something in the design/marketing/performance field (and not always then), don't go using fancy fonts, papers or clipart. Stick to something like Times Roman or Arial, with a couple of underlines if you have to.
I did once read something in my old student rag about a guy who maintained that, to get a CV noticed, you should write it in coloured felt pen on paper towels. I never found out if it got him the job, though.
