Once again Brown thinks more of foreigners than his own people.

£5,000 that is available to offenders who go voluntarily when they have finished their sentence, whilst our own offenders are only given £46 discharge grant, plus a travel warrant to their home town, and they cannot start to receive benefits for a fortnight.

Wouldn't it be better for foreign criminals, when found guilty to be deported immediately, instead of the taxpayer paying the cost of a spell in jail for them, plus this return home package, at the time of their release?

I think the government are in league with the 'Open Borders' group. They have certainly assisted them in their aims for the past 10 years.

That's only part of the story, sp. The Labour party is in collusion with big business, ethnic minorities and gays (bah! You pretend you don't know!) to hoodwink naive treehugging liberals in order to systematically destroy Britain behind the back of its slumbering population and divide the plunder. 'Racism' and anti-discrimination laws are nought but a dastardly ruse to stifle all opposition and eliminate those who stumble across the plot: just like the courageous journal which dares to fight the uphill battle in defence of Great Britain - the Daily Mail.

UKBA do patrol the borders (as you put it) - it is they who deal with the passports as one departs arrives. They also manage the visa process. The primary problem is with overstayers (who one might argue shouldn't have been granted a visa in the first place), asylum seekers and illegals. Every country worth migrating to has a problem with illegals. To reitterate, these people know their rights (or just get free legal advice from people who are employed at taxpayers expenses to tell them how to maximise their rights) and getting rid of them is bloody difficult.
AOG is right when he says change the process - but there are many who would say the Home Secretary or the PM don't control the process. It is a legal process and the last time I looked the judiciary where kept very separate from the Government. Otherwise how does one explain why, when all EU countries have the same Human Rights legislation, we in the UK seem to make such a meal of keeping these bar-stewards out in the first place (vis-a-vis Calais camp - sitting waiting to hop onto a lorry) or getting rid of them once they are here. The Attorney General needs reminding more frequently who is going to be paying his fat pension, and poke the judiciary a bit harder to remind them who is going to be paying their fat pensions.

the government pays officials to tell people their rights? Outrageous!! People should be kept in the dark about their rights as far as humanly possible. What we need is a LOT less transparency.

Seems strange that Jack Straw who champions human rights is the same minister who had first hand experience and confidante of Blair in preparation of the war in Iraq. So its alright to bomb another country to smithereens unlawfully but not protect his own country from illegal immigrants using a much hated human rights law.
