wet wall??

In my dining room, the wall with the window keeps getting wet patchs they dry out for a few days then come back in slightly different places. The area involved is approx 30in wide and no more than 15 inches from floor. Any ideas what would cause this? thanks julie

Rising damp, get a builder in.

Agreed rising damp !

if your house is a new one then contact your builder regarding the damp proofing .

if its an older house check that your still covered under warranty for damp proofing .

if no cover regarding damp proofing then you sadly face the bill for damp proofing the property .

thanks for quick replys. Ive recently had new roof and full house rewire through a grant where i pay half, they also done one wall in the dining room which was damp and crumbling away. They took it right back to the brick then treated and replastered. Unfortunatley six weeks later we discovered the opposite internal wall had the same problem so managed to get this done through the grant too! I think the grant is probably finalised now so darent phone back to tell that the external wall is wet!. Cos im female i dont understand what damp proofing is! Is this what ive had done to the internal walls? or is that completley different? Sorry for waffling on! julie

damp proofing is a membrain put between the two outer walls to stop water from penetrating into the house .

unless this membrain has been punctured by the work you have done then my guess is the problems you have had sorted have not sorted the problem , but have mearly sorted out a couple of the symtoms. however without proper inspection this is only theory and should not be taken as fact .

either way it sadly it never ends where it starts and any damp entering a propery will spread over time and cause further issue's. so swift action is recommended.

there are also chemicals that can used to prevent water penetration . " but personaly " i would seek the advice of a builder to get the damp proofing sorted properly.

Polyurathane was painted to outside walls of a nearby house, now they have damp patches & mould indoors.

sadly some chemical treatments will hold in water and not just prevent it coming in.

hence my suggestion to have the job looked at by a builder and fixed properly.
