For me it wasn't a book but a short story by Ray Bradbury called "A sound of thunder"......up till then all the books i ahd read were forced upon me by school and usually were along the lines of old willie s. but lo and behold a georgeous supply teacher and this book got me interested in reading!! It led onto being an avirious reader and i now have over 2,000 books.
There are so many books that can teach us something precious. All time favourite is Till We Have Faces by CS Lewis. Forget the Narnia books, this is an adult book and a loose re-telling of a Greek myth based in another world. It's all about truth and perception and the great hurt we do each other by only seeing things from our own point of view and not respecting another person's reality. Unforgettable and beautifully, intelligently and imaginatively written.
