Registrars and civil partnerships
8 Answers
I am quite interested in becoming a Registrar after I am made redundant.
However, as a Christian and having seen the recent case where a Christian registrar disciplined for refusing to conduct same-sex civil partnerships lost her appeal against the ruling, does know if this requirement is for all registrars in UK or if it differs from county to county?
I don't have an issue with gays or lesbians and have some as personal friends, but it is the act of their sin that I would struggle to condone by blessing a partnership.

I have about another 12 months before my place of work closes so am just putting feelers out for changes in career. Thought being a registrar would be interesting as I like working with people and being with people in times of sadness and joy would be stimulating. I'm sure there must be similar jobs out there.
Thanks Sara. Don't think the ministry is for me. I know someone who has just finished training and it is really hard work and needs a lot of self sacrifice.
I need an income, like helping people but don't want as much responsibility as I have in my current job. Am in a fortunate position where I have a lot of notice about forthcoming redundancy so am trying to use the time to explore opportunities so that I can do whatever training etc. I need before trying to find a job.
Bit depressing to be starting tonight but starting out on my new years' resolutions.
Best wishes to you all for 2010.

They attend Roman Catholic marriages as a registrar has to be present in the catholic church during a marriage, they marry people in football grounds, on hill tops, in pubs, they register deaths and attend inquests, they register still births adoptions and births, they provide records for solicitors, businesses, family historians and professional intestasy lawyers. It would be a great job cos you don't work saturday afternoons usually. unless you are doing a wedding and then you get to eat the meal too.
