xbox live connection trouble

hi there i brought my son a wireless adpater for xmas along with 12mths live, but we seem too be having problems setting it up.....we found my wireless router with no trouble and connected too it then it said it couldnt find the ip addy, so i put it in manually and this seemed fine but now im getting an error message saying that it cant connect too the internet with a static IP ADDY???? its rather frustrating as he really wants too use it, ive emailed mircsoft and they supplied me with a link too a page that could help but ive tryed everythink on the page and still keep getting this message....was wondering if anybody could help me out...plzzzzzzzzz im really stuck....also my wireless router is netgear and my inter supplier is virgin media....thanks inadvance

you shouldnt use a manual ip address, this will make things more difficut. leave it on automatic on the xbox and go on your router settings and make sure DHCP is enabled. also check your security on your router and make sure that it is only WPA and not WPA2 this can also cause problems. something else to check for on your router setings is NAT. make sure this is enabled. hope that helps. if you still have problems, send me a message.
