No Info On Digital BBC
4 Answers
I have a Samsung 42" Plasma TV with built in freeview.
When I am watching any BBC channel & I press the 'info' button I do not get any info about the programme. All the other channels are ok. I have done a re-tune and that did not solve the problem.
The EPG works fine and I can get info that way.
I also have a Panasonic DVD recorder with built in freeview and that has the same problem.
Is anybody else experiencing the same problem. I am in the Bradford/Bingley area of West Yorkshire.

In an ideal world, the lengths of your aerial elements should be exactly matched to the frequency of the incoming signal. Since each channel is on a different frequency you theoretically need a different aerial for every channel which you watch. (Imagine that lot on your roof!). That's clearly impractical, so we use aerials which provide only a 'rough match' to each of the incoming signals. That means that any aerial will be better at 'pulling in' some channels than others. Your aerial is probably poorly matched to the frequencies of the BBC group of channels. (The fact that you suffer the same problem with both your TV and your DVD recorder seems to confirm this)
When the received signal strength is 'borderline' it's often possible to view a channel normally, while still not being able to resolve the additional information encoded within the signal (which provides the programme details which you're referring to). Your aerial isn't providing your TV with a good enough signal to view this information for the BBC channels.
A cheap signal booster will almost certainly fix the problem.

I don't believe it is a problem with the aerial.
The problem has developed recently and the aerial is about 2 years old.
Yesterday I got 'info' on BBC2 & BBC4 for a short while.
I have a booster that sends signal around the house (e.g. Kitchen & Bedroom) so I shall re-configue to boost signal into tv. If that solves the problem then Buenchico is right, if not I shall believe it to be a transmission problem.
My aerial points directly to a booster transmitter about 10 miles away and there are no obstructions. Believe me I can it from window.

Before you dismiss my answer, please read about all of the factors which affect the signal strength at your aerial, in my post here:

The fact that the problem appears to be intermittent (as evidenced by your reference to briefly getting 'info' on BBC2 and BBC4) seems only to back up my theory.
