My son has ust got back from ASDAS and he says there was a queue at the fireworks cabinet!!!! It's reminded me to sedate Bingo, I had forgotten this new yankie tradition of seeing in the new year with Fireworks. It's ridiculous but I know some people seem to love it.
Agree with you dot.....Fireworks should be banned from Sale to the General Public and should be available only to organised events and to people who know how to handle them !!
i hate them, but Bingo hates them even more yet he has no idea what they are, he is also partially deaf and yet can still hear them enough to start to shake and tremble, i have his phenobarbitol tablets for his epilepsy though and so he should be ok now I've remembered, it's the first time in 10 years we haven't had Max with us at New year and he was never upset by fireworks as much and it's just dawned on me that cos he is not here I can't go out and leave Bingo alone : (
Pleased it isn't just me and Jack the Collie! It's a ludicrous 'tradition'.
Despite my misery-guts sounding attitude I wish you all the very best for 2010! x
My Sandy is terrified, shaking like a leaf and hiding in the bathroom. He wasn't this bad last year. He hasn't been out since late afternoon, refuses point blank to go. I don't care if he has an 'accident' in the house, but knowing him he won't.
My boys (two years old, GSP weimaraner cross) were never bothered till this year. Our stupid neighbours had really loud ones that whistled and banged and I woke up at midnight with a 30 kg dog sitting on my head trembling and the other one pressed hard up against me....wish people would have consideration for others
woofgang I know the situation isn't funny but the image you put in my head made me smile! I had given my 2 their last proper walk at 10, and when I woke on the sofa at 1.15 and let them out the back some clown was letting them off then-****!
Hope everyone lse's furries saw the New Year in with little trauma.
x
I used to have a lot of problems with my older dog. I prefer to take her out in it rather than leave her at home to stress on her own. The last night I ensured that everyone in my 'group' ignored her when she started to stress, and eventually she just sat still and was calm. Now she stresses less in the house when they go off. I think we were guilty of reinforcing her anxiety by stroking her etc. Plus I'm too tight to pay for drugs. The other dog doesn't give a sh1t and quite happily watches them.
Ludicrous I agree, but what I cannot fathom is that on New Years Eve we had fireworks round here at 9 o'clock in the evening! Surely the only point of fireworks at New Year is to see the New Year in at midnight - whats 9 o'clock all about?
