When getting walls skimmed is it best to remove the skirting & architraves? I don't want the plaster to be built up so that the top edge of the skirting is lost. Ideally the plasterer would taper the skim down to nothing as he approaches the skirting & architraves, but is that asking too much?

no that isn't to much depends though how easy you could remove the skirting if it has been in a long time it never seems to go back as is.
Architrave poses no problem as they have a thick back edge have you thought about may be just bringing all top edges just off the wall to accommodate a thin skim hth Tez

Thanks for the tip Tez!
I will pull the top edge of the skirting back to accommodate the skim. Problem solved without damaging anything!
BTW, the skirting & architrave have been on for 110 years. I really was not looking forward to removing them or putting them back.
