does anyone remember a dark comedy tv series, early 80s, set in new york, about a bloke (poss in media/advertising) who lived alone in a flat. On BBC2 I think, late at night. Quite a bit of sex involved. What was it called?

it wasn't in new york, that dishy bloke was the lead in the first series then someone else took the role

and Dream On wasn't in the 70s or 80s it was in the 90s

It was in New York, and Brian Benben was the lead throughout - the actor playing his best friend changed after the first series. I've got series one box set and it's still as funny.
