Actually a hospital is a place able to treat a wide variety of diseases - a polyclinic is a clinic able to treat a not-quite-so wide variety of diseeases. 'Clinics' are not 'hospitals', they have no in-patients, so the severity and therefore variety of disease treated cannot be anywhere near as large.
