eye pain..Help?
4 Answers
ok, My boyfriend for almost all his life has suffered pains behind the eye, gets shooting pains in the eye sometimes, headaches and his eye can become bloodshot. He has, on many occasions been to the doctors and they actually do not know what it could be. We'e researched it on the internet and there is vast amounts of information on what it could be. I feel really sorry for him as he really suffers from it about once a week. Optition claims its a disease where something grows on his eyelid causing the bloodshot eye and gave him eyedrops which did not work or stop his pain.
has anyone else had this or heard of this?

The most likely cause for this pain if it feels like it is behind the eyes is some form of neuralgia.
Iritis is usually uniocular (one eye) with acute severe pain with a significant red eye.
There are numerous conditions which can recur and cause painful red eyes such as chronic anterior uveitis and episcleritis but you do need to get this problem investigated.
One likely diagnosis is of recurrent corneal erosions which cause sharp foreign body like pains with red eyes and can be managed with lubricants and sometimes bandage contact lenses or minor surgical intervention.
