Broken engagements and returning rings...

So what's everyone's opinion on returning engagement rings after a broken engagement?

If it ended badly, flog the ring and spoil yourself with the proceeds. At least some good will come out of it!!

Never been there myself.However,if  it was given and accepted by a couple for a pending marriage,who ever cheats etc.forfeits any right to the ring.!

If he does the dirty on you sell the ring.

If it is an amicable split then the honourable thing would be to return the ring. Although a decent man wouldn't accept it back anyway.

My friend is going through this right now.  She returned the engagement presents his family had bought her but so far still has the ring.  She doesn't see why she should return it.  No one cheated or anything, I think things just started going down hill and they were on a break for about 2 months before she finally made it permanent.

Personally I would at least offer to give him the ring back, if he refused to take it then I think I'd probably keep it, unless he cheated etc then I'd sell it :)  Rinkytink is right though, I don't think a good man would want the ring returned

I returned my ring.  What was I gonna do with it?  Still wear it?  It was just a reminder of what went wrong in the relationship.  My fiance hadn't done anything wrong so i felt no need to sell it for revenge.  But I'm not in touch with him anymore so I dunno what he did with it.

I offered to return mine, but my ex told me to keep it. I sold it a couple of years later.
