Not potatoes... they originated nearly 6,000 years ago in the Andean Mountains of South America in present day Peru and/or Bolivia. and were never cultivated in the proto U.S. until reintroduced from Europe... from whence they had been exported by the Spanish and Portuguese Conquistadores...
