Statically charged...
12 Answers
For about the last month now I keep getting so many static shocks, when I touch people or metal objects, it is pretty constant, I had one the other week off the vendor at work and it actually made my finger hurt / ache for a while. Why is this happening to me? I am not doing anything any different to what I normally do. Just wondering what it could be, do you think I have superpowers? :)

Not sure if this will help but I used to have this problem getting out of the car so I know how painful it can be. Someone told me the secret is to keep hold of the car door until you are out and have both feet on the floor THEN let go. It works. I don't know if you can modify the idea for your situation?
You are creating static energy with your clothes and then discharging the energy when you reach out to something / someone which is grounded. Are you wearing lots of synthetic fabrics ? The reason that the car door advice works is that holding the metal of the door grounds the static rather than leaving a gap for the spark to jump. Try taking your clothes off in the dark and shaking them .....bet you get lots of little sparks. Sometimes keeping the air moist helps.

some cheeper carpets are made from man made fibers and these can help the build up of static , wearing shoes with a rubber soul , will help if the carpets your standing on are of this type .
a quick test of this can be done by simply remembering when this started and where it is happening . ie at work " did yo ustart a new job or have new carpets layed in the last month " .. if you have no rubber soul'd shoes giving yourself a ground plain will help .. many who work with coputer coponents have to ground themselves to prevent static charge being fed into components. " its a simple copper cable worn either round the ancle or rist and allowed to ground".

Sazzy this has been happening to me and my daughter since before Xmas! We are both getting shocks all the time, our hair is uncontrollable and sticking to our faces with static and we keep shocking the cat when we pet him. I haven't changed anything at all in the house, no new carpets or anything like that. Even the hairdresser was having trouble last week cos my hair kept sticking to her and the brush. I thought maybe it had something to do with the weather as that was the only thing that was different, but now the snow has gone and the static is still there. If you figure it out can you let me know? It is driving us both mad!
