Corrupt File C0000102 Parameters 75b6bf7c 75b6bf7c etc

As mentioned previously, I had the messsage yesterday that there was a corrupt file on my Sony laptop which is running Windows XP. I checked on Norton under the disk optimization test and it said that I should check the C drive saying system errors consider running chkdsk.
I was very kindly told by one of the experts that I should run the following type "cmd." then "chkdsk/f. I tried doing this and windows came back with the message that there was no such file. I then typed in under run "chkdsk" and it came back in a read only message, F parameters not specified and started running about 10 corrupt files which it said was deleting but nothing happened and they are still there.
I am by no means an expert and the laptop is getting old and I am looking round for a desktop now, although I will have to get a wireless card as it is not possible to have my computer near the router. I do not move the laptop around, hence considering desktop.
Is my laptop about to give up on me, bearing in mind that it now has corrupt files. Is there anything else I can do to try and get rid of them. I am not an expert but can follow straight forward instructions.
Thanks for your help people.

Check gow much free space your C drive has, right click My Computer, look at Properties, click System Restore tab, if the settig is higher for your C drive than your C drive has, use the bar to reduce the setting, this should also change the status to monitoring, repeat with any other disk partitions you use (but its usally the C drive) then restart, this should kick chkdsk into action (may take a long while for chkdsk to run), Then the error messages should go away. Think about clearing up some space on your C drive afterwards and bumping the setting back up again if you can.
