When I was very young, so about 1966 or so, I had a book of children's stories. There was one story that my mum got sick of reading 'cos I asked for it every night. It was called The Crinoline Lady and was about a crinoline lady , of course, that was a table decoration. There was also a cruet set consisting of a hen and two chicks. Every night they all used to come alive and talk, until one night the cat got into the room and chased the chicks all over the place. Does anyone know the story or the name of the book it was in, please? Thanks

You've got me thinking now, it rings a bell from my childhood, especially when you say she was snobby, seem to remember her regretting rejecting her suitor, and something awful happening to him!
I would be if I could remember the story! Just searched on google....nothing! I'll have to ask my mum, maybe she will remember.
Thinking the suitor wasn't clockwork, was he made of wax and melted? Or is my memory playing tricks?
Wow, I think he did! I'd completely forgotten that. I've just remembered that the book had a basically light blue cover with a diamond pattern down the edges and little pictures in each one. I wish I could remember some of the other stories in it...it might have helped

I had a bit of a brainwave, or as near to one as I can get. The name "Golden Treasury" or "Golden Storybook Treasury" had been on my mind. It's not much of a help, but we're one step closer
