Could you take on some voluntary work whilst you are looking and then potential employers will see that you have some recent experience in the workplace?

try the direct.gov website, there are lots of free training oppertunities available, some of which are actually worthwhile. You could also try applying for temp jobs which will give you some recent experience on your CV. I would also speak to someone about having your CV done proffesionally, no offence but your CV is probably a bit to honest and an independant eye may show you how to make the best of what you have. The job centre and many other agencies such as learn direct and train 2 gain will all know of free CV services in your area. It's a very competitive market out there at the moment so good luck
