I think it is SALVO. If you look in the dictionary it reads: A forceful verbal or written assault.I hope this helps.

FERGOL 

Are you certain of your letters, Sid, especially the 'o'? I ask because Fergol's suggestion of 'salvo' doesn't really appear to work. 'Salvo' is a noun - as Fergol's own dictionary definition makes clear - and so cannot truly replace the verb 'speak'. How about 'scoff', 'scorn' or 'sneer'?
From memory I think the answer was 'Scoff'. Last letter is incorrect  -  remind us of the full clue Supersid  -  missing words are vital!  Cheers, ja
