Hey all!

Ok, so I cooked my finger trying to make myself lunch on Monday, managed to touch the red hot bar at the top of the grill with the back of my middle finger! At first it didnt register and I didnt feel anything, just looked at it and it was a funny yellow/orange colour so being clever I rubbed it and then the pain lol! Along with the horrible smell of burnt skin!

Now it is a kind of inch long open wound with dark red round the outside, and most of the bottom of my finger is also red.
Just popped into the chemist who said yep the middle looks infected and I need to get it seen to.

I got some melolyn (sp) and micropore from him, could I just put some of that on with some savlon or something? Or as it is infected would it need something else?

It is very sore and the red round the outside is spreading. Going to the Drs about it is jst hassle with time off work and I tried to go in there on my way home but they were closed!

It hurts! Please help! :-(

Oh, the bit in the middle of the wound is kind of brown in colour and sunken, and thats the bit the chemist said was infected!
Id there not a walk in centre in your area?
Question Author
Nope!
I live 2 doors down from the Drs so just thought I would nip in there when I got home and they were closed. Mind you, the receptionists are both moody **** who would say no one would be able to help unless I booked an appt, which then means half a day of work! :-(

Oh dear well looks like you will need to make appointment then, I know how you feel its very painful

Thanks mamya for the link,

But the nearest walk in centre to me is in Luton, about half hour away!
a) Take Ibuprofen 600mgms for the pain.
b) Insist you see your GP 2morrow as you will need antibiotics.
Hope you're OK wiggal, I ironed my index finger last week (I've got one of those presses) and I must admit that although it took a while to heal, it's looking fine now. Don't leave it any longer to get advice on it though.
Get it seen to urgently - Septicaemia is not nice.
Oooo ouchy, burns, they ruddy hurt huh?

Cant offer advise i'm afraid, just wanted to sympathise. Hope it gets better soon :-)

Hey sqad,

I dont have ibuprofen, will nurofen do?
Hmm, think I will have to try and get to the Drs tomorrow!

Oh, I do have some Fucidin cream... would that help at all?
Question Author
Hey boxtop, canary and B00, sorry you posted your answers whilst I was replying to Sqad!

It is really sore and looks abit puffed up aswell.
I have spoken to my SIL who is a pharmacist and she thinks the fucidin cream might help, so my finger is now wrapped up in fucidin, melolin and micropore!
Having to go to the drs tomorrow is really not good as there are already people of in my dept and hmm!
nurofen is ibuprofen!
Question Author
Oh ok ta Chuck!
Time to track down some tablets!
would be worse for you if it didnt hurt as that would mean you had 3rd degree burns and had burned all the nerve endings off!
Question Author
Hi all!

I went in to work today and was told that there is a walk in centre not far from work, so headed over there this afternoon and got seen very quickly!

It would seem the fucidin worked very very well as when I took the bandage I had off, the redness had gone done and the Dr said that it was looking very good and to carry on with what I was doing! :-) So I dont need antibiotics at the mo, but she said if it does look dodgy again then I will need to see the nurse at my Drs about it.
Thanks for the feedback.
Glad to hear it's not so serious after all - but always better safe than sorry. Hope it continues to get better.
Glad its on the mend.

Mamya
