induction kit

would fitting an induction kit + performance air filter make much difference to my engines performance? i am thinking of doing this but not sure whether to or not. thanks people!

Most cars benefit a little from extra breathing under the bonnet.

Although if you have a japanese or sportier model car (not 1.0 or 1.4, he he) then an air induction kit will be much better as the higher the engine revs the more air is needed.  Also consider exhausts too, bigger back boxes and sportier exhausts help the engine to empty the waste gases much quicker.

Of course all this is irrelevant if your brakes are poo, which is another area you must improve upon if you are to uprate your pocket rocket.

its only a 1.1 thats whats making me think its not really going to be worth it! will it make much difference to the way the engine sounds? also another thing i would ask is, you know if i was to upgrade my brakes, well would i jus get ones that go on say a 1.6 version saxo? or do i need special ones? im a bit confused about that. thanks :-)

saxo_boi, can you possibly afford to part-exchange to a VTR, or even a VTS ? I looked into this a while ago and there are specialist tuners out there who will take a VTS and up it to 160 or even 220bhp, then it'll fly. (I am fortunate to be a little over 25 ! so I can get insured on a VTS). I drive both a VTS and my daughter's 1.1 which is pretty respectable for oomph. Are you under 25 by the way ? Sorry about the questions, but I love saxos. I saw a whole book devoted to tuning them, and I am nearly sure it was in Halfords. It mainly concentrated on the VTS but there were loads of good tips applicable to all models. Have fun anyway. It sounds like you are prepared to spend a bit, so if you can part-ex up that's the best starting point.

hiya mfewell, that would be great if i could do that! i have heard about how fast the vts is and i would do anything to have one! the thing is im only 18, im driving a 1.1 saxo and because its modified my insurance is �2500!!! i have looked into doing this previously but the insurance would just be too much for me! thats what i want to do in the future, i was thinking about maybe paying out for an engine conversion to a VTS engine but im not sure! thing is my 1.1 is pretty nippy for what it is so i just dream of having the 1.6 lol and yes i have seen that book, its good isnt it and yes its from halfords, i think its done alongside with haynes who make the normal manuals. im thinking about buying that aswell. how much do you pay for insurance? (dont answer if its too personal by the way!) and i dont know if your into racing but what sort of cars can you keep up with?cheers mate

saxo_boi, stand by to hate me. I pay �540 insurance, that's fully comp and with my 22 yr old daughter as a named driver. But I am just the wrong side of 50 and got masses of protected ncb. I'd swap it all to be 18 again. I'm with Admiral by the way. My daughter has always wanted to have a good pose in a VTS so almost by way of a joke I phoned Admiral a couple of years back and they put her on my policy for only an extra �200 (as you can see for me alone it was only �340 pa, sorry!). We often swap cars. As to performance, yes it is very good. When it gets to 4000rpm it just takes off up to 7500. If it had more grunt below 4000 it would be fantastic.  Published 0-60 you'll know is about 7.2, but it all depends on how slick you change gear, all I know is it comes up in 2nd and feels less ! Also effortless cruising at 80, and a lot of kick still left. 80-100 is quick. I have once tried for top speed but didn't have the bottle to go above 117, there was loads more left. I think it will give most hot hatches a good run, although not the Clio 2.0. But 1/2 sec to 60 is a bit academic. Thanks for your interest and enjoy being 18.

p.s. I've done the Elise day at Thruxton, as has my daughter. She went on to drive a Ferrari (twice) and a Carrera. Do I have deep pockets ? I highly recommend it either for a present, or why not yourself too.

p.s. I have to say I do not speed more than once in a blue moon, and only when the road is very clear.

r wow you dont understand how envious i am of you!!!!!!! i want your car!!!!!! lol. yea im going to look into this you know il have to get some quotes etc. but it sounds pretty quick so i doubt il get insured anyway. but i can still dream! also another thing i took my 1.1 off the clock about 2 months ago, i admit it was downhilll but 115 for a 1.1 isnt bad. nobody belives me that i done it but i did!! i was proud anyway lol. thanks for answering my post etc. and tell your daughter shes f***ing lucky!lol r i really want a VTS now! how annoying! i wish money was no object!

Good idea, I would guess that insurance companies would as 'happy' insuring you on a standard VTS as on a 1.1 with loads of go-faster mods. Try it. Note that some insurance companies won't even quote under-25 males, so shop around. It all gets easier when you start to build a no-claims bonus, you just have to suffer for a few years. I would be really interested to hear how you get on. If you get a VTS it corners like glue on those fat boots !

yea i was thinking that because its the modifications that really push the price up on it! ill try and let you know what i get up to! im going to look at quotes etc todays and see what happens! thanks though!

well mfewell just tried to get a quote for a VTS with me as 1st driver on fully comp and the quote that i got was over �8000!!! and thats was without any modifications.how annoying! so wont be able to go for that option i dont think! ill just have to be patient and wait!

Sorry to hear that, I expect they wouldn't even consider third-party.

Obvious I know and I mustn't lecture, but you do know to tell your insurance about any further mods you do. If you don't and have a crash, they will refuse to pay up, leaving you personally liable to a third party, and it can get horrible for you. Sorry, again good luck.

yea i know all aboutthat thats why my insurance is so high at the moment, if i didnt have modifications then my insurance would be 1600 bout with them its 2500, easy to see why people choose to lie! thanks though mate!
