do they have to provide a proof of debt before I pay them? one company has recently started chasing me for 5k , but I cant remember what this was for, I’ve never made a payment, and therefore not acknowledged that this debt is mine, but they call all the time, should I ask for proof that I actually owe this money and do they have to prove this before I make a payment?

I recently had the same thing happen. I asked for a copy of the original contract to look at before i would discuss repayment. A week later they sent me a letter saying their client would not be taking it any further. Guess they couldn't find the paperwork! Pretty sure its down for them to prove a contract exists-and if they can't there's no proof!!!
