Changing light bulb in oven

I have a Scholtès FE 4356 electric oven (with pyrolytic cleaning function) in which the bulb of the light inside the oven has blown.

There is nothing in the user manual about changing this bulb. Is it something I can do myself and if so, how, and what are the specifications of the bulb I need to get?

Most of these ovens have a screw-in oven bulb, either E14 or E27 type. Either 15, 25 or sometimes 40W. Once you've got the old one out, you'll be able to see which. An oven bulb is merely a high-temperature tolerant version of the conventional thing. Expect to pay around £4.00 for it.
Typically there will be a glass cover to be removed using a Pozi-screws, in order to get at the bulb.

No, there are no screws anywhere near the light (which is on the left side of the oven). I get the impression that you have to remove the whole oven from the wall unit in which it is fitted in order to gain access to the light unit from outside the oven casing.

Has it got a raised metal rim around the light glass?

One I had like that just had to be prised out with a screwdriver. There might be an indent to allow this to be done.

No. The side wall of the oven has grooves in it to allow the shelves to be slid in and out. The light assembly is recessed into the wall and there is definitely no metal rim – just the glass under which a white seal can be seen. It is very awkward to inspect because the door of the oven which hinges gownwards gets in the way.

The more I look at it, the more convinced I become that the whole oven will have to be pulled out of the kitchen unit and that I will find some means to access the bulb from the outside.

I can’t pull it out partially to look as there is another cupboard to the left of the oven. Anyway, this is a job for tomorrow. I shall report back!

Before you go removing the oven it's more likely that you can pull all the shelves out, undo a couple of screws that hold the side panel in place inside the oven compartment (the one with the grooves in it) and remove the whole panel to get to the bulb.

There is no side panel: the inside of the oven is all in one piece.

Pulling the oven out of the cabinet will not be difficult - I just need a second pair of hands!

On my oven (not the same) the glass cover unscrews.

You could try emailing Scholtes for advice at '[email protected]' and explain the problem. But being an Indesit company, and French into the bargain, it might not help!!

I have contacted the company who did our kitchen 10 years ago. It seems that the light unit clips into place and has to be prised out from the inside of the oven with a screwdriver wrapped in a cloth as the glass is very easily broken! I will try that tomorrow. I can see myself buying a new glass as well as a bulb!
