Cat C write off
My son is buying a new Seat and is 1996 peugeot is going in on the scrappage scheme . He has owned this car since Oct 2005. He took all the paperwork into the dealers yesterday V5 Mot Insurance for them to copy to qualify for scrappage. Anyway my son received a phone call from the Seat dealer today asking did he know it was a Cat C write off in 2004 I guess they did an HPI and did he know. He didn't. The dealer contacted DVLA to see if it had a certificate issued. The DVLA haven't the Cat C recorded never mind the certificate. So how can HPI have it down as Cat C and the DVLA doesn't.The dealer was advised to Email VOSA for clarification. All seems a bit daft when its off to the crusher in a few weeks when the new cars delivered.

Thanks for your answers I hope it still qualifies for scrappage. No there is no marker on the V5 as I said the DVLA said there was nothing recorded. The certificate mentioned is apparently issued after a Category C is put back on the road that it has passed a road worthiness test. I think the Seat salesman is just following there procedures regarding HPI check as if they were taking in a normal trade in.Do Insurance companies not do checks as the Peugeot has been insured with 3 different companies in the 4 years my sons owned it?
mdoo98 - the Association of British Insurers (ABI) has used the Category A,B,C,D system of damage classification for its Motor Insurers Anti Fraud & Theft Register (MIAFTR) for decades (since around 1987 I think) and has provided the register for HPI usage in their Vehicle Condition Alert Register (VCAR) since January 1997.
I suspect the 2004(ish) changes of which you are thinking relate to the VIC scheme, active since 2003.
