I watched this too & couldn't believe how these women with perfectly healthy boys, would still crave for & go out of their way to 'try' to have girls.
The woman with four beautiful boys, who went out of her way to have a daughter, then ended up having twin girls, was a weirdo. Taking them to the posh shops to chose all those expensive clothes & makeup at 4 years old, was in my opinion wrong & I think they were well on their way to being precocious, spoilt little brats like their mother!
Having said that, we wouldn't be without our two daughters, three granddaughters & one grandson.
A couple of my friends envy the fact that we have daughters & granddaughters, one in particular was most upset when her 4th grandson came along, asking me why 'I got all the girls?' I told her not to be so silly & that you should accept what nature intends. She has since died & her son & daughter-in-law has had another boy, so that would have been 5 grandsons - it just wasn't meant to be....

Only saw the end of this programme so can't really comment on it but my mother (who had 5 girls and then a boy) often says how infuriated she would get when she would meet people after having her 6th child and they would without fail say "ah you finally got your boy". She says that she didn't for one minute care what the gender of her children were and if all of her 6 children had been girls then that would have been just fine!
All kids are precious and there are plenty of folks who would love to have a child but don't. If it is just an 'I want' situation then it is more than shallow but the writeup for the programme seemed to suggest that this is a recognised psychiatric condition. If that's the case then it must be tough to have those feelings knowing that they sound so self-centred.

shivvy, if you get the opportunity to watch this programme on iplayer, please do, as it was very interesting.
I feel for anyone who 'wants' either a boy or girl &/or doesn't get what they 'want', but as I say, if you already have healthy babies/children, you really should be grateful for that & thank your lucky stars.

Hello shivy - sorry for delay in replying, been very busy today & only just tuned in.
Don't quite understand why you'd think you've upset me - quite the contrary. The only reason I suggested iplayer to you, was because you said you'd missed the beginning of the programme & thought you may like to watch it all - that's all.
I found it very interesting....

I thought the women were totally sad and pathetic. What the hell does it matter whether you have boys or girls. The spoilt brat woman with the twin girls was the worse one of all. She could have just bought dolls because it seemed her only interest was in dressing the girls up.
I totally cannot comprehend this sort of mentality.

Hi again shivvy - just popping out the door for a couple of bits, but here's a link to the programme: http://www.channel4.c...ys-and-wanting-a-girl
Probably genuine. Definitely selfish. When the parents shuffle off this mortal coil they will have removed 2 individuals, if they leave more than 2 offspring behind then they are part of society's overpopulation problem, not part of its solution, and are presumably expecting the rest to compensate for them.
