exchange and complete on the same day?

I am getting very frustrated with the sale of my property, which is totally holding up the purchase of my next property, and I am now wondering about the pros and cons of exchanging and completing on the same day or whether I should start threatening to pull out and see if that gets the solicitors going a bit quicker!! Any advice gladly appreciated!!!

The other sides solicitor was a nightmare when I moved. They have a dreadful reputation locally and I was really worried when I found out they were acting for the vendors. I insisted that I exchange and complete on the same day. My solicitor was great, chasing her and basically hounding her day and night but it was only when I walked into their offices (I made sure the waiting room was full) and announced that if she didn't pull her finger out I was going to the Law Society that we saw any action. I moved 3 weeks later.
