People who make random comments

I work with a girl who has a tendancy to say some pretty random things. The whole office will be quiet and she'll pipe up with a comment about the latest thing her child has said or done. The rest of us just nod or smile and keep working, but it actually annoys me! I dont particularly care how long hes been out of nappies, or what he said to her that morning. Any great one liners for me to reply with, or ways to simply ignore her?!

Have you tried being nice to her instead?

Poor bloody mare is only trying to start a conversation, wouldn't kill you to interact with her would it?

just focus on your work, maybe she doesnt like the feeling of a dead quiet atmosphere and pipes up to start of a bit of chatter. I dont think deliberatly putting her down will make either of you feel better in the end and its more likely to cause friction.

you can learn to drown out noise quite easily

i am nice to her! i do chat to her, (i made myself sound a right cow but i do actually talk to her). i think my mine gripe is that she doesnt pull her weight in the office, she'd much rather start a new and pointless conversation than get some work done!

We have a woman who when we are explaining things to someone outside the dept. she will do a "Poly Parrot" impression and repeat anything one of us says, it's really annoying.

Our boss knows she does it but is in her office most of the time so ignores it.

We've started saying "is there an echo in here", the last time it happened to me I just stared at her, she finally went quiet

when i read your post jb it brought to mind the catherine tate office clip she does where she randomly comes out with things but her mates too busy with her work and just wants to get on lol ...

just make sure you get your work done, the stats will show up the workers from the shirkers so if she is slacking she will get pulled up for it at some point in the future

I have a woman in my work who talks non stop from 9 till 5 about the most boring trivial things - her favourite topic just now is cupcakes. She will also tell one person something really boring them turn round and repeat the story to someone else who heard it all the first time. Our supervisor is always in her office and we don't have any kind of stats so there's no chance of it ending any time soon. We all leave at night with splitting headaches and about ready to throttle her just for 5 minutes peace. Ignoring her doesn't work cos she just carries on, then bad mouths you for ignoring her.
