There are lots of misconceptions around concerning numbers and their chances of coming up- people would never pick 44,45,46,47, 48, 49 for example, yet it's just as likely to come up as 3, 12, 16, 21, 34, 43, for example. Suppose that instead of 49 numbered balls there were 49 different coloured balls. Every combination is just as likely as any other combination of colours. There's no reason why red would be more likely to come up than silver. It's the same with numbers.
