Meaning of the word BEANO

Heard it on a tv program recently...cant find it in the dictionary am guessing it is a day out or trip somewhere..am I correct?

It was originally a printer's abbreviation of 'bean-feast', which was a free annual dinner given by employers to their workers. Hence, it has come, in colloquial terms, to mean any sort of jollification, party etc, especially if it ended in rowdyism of some sort.

Here in the U.S.A., BEANO is an over-the-counter (no prescription necessary) medication to prevent flatulence.

Going back to my childhood, if my mam said, "We're going to have a beano tonight!" It meant my dad was going to the pub and we were going to eat loads of sweets!!! She did actually once say it came from the term beanfeast.
