If the file is already an mpeg then you may be able to burn it just as a data file and watch it on your DVD player. Works on mine.

If you use Nero (I tend to assume everyone does) then that'll convert the mpeg to VCD and then it'll definitely work on your DVD player.

Both Nero and Roxio (most new computers come with one or the other) will burn an mpeg as a VCD. Nero will convert some other formats to VCD while Roxio will need the files converted to mpeg first. I personally find Roxio easier to use than Nero, and so use WinAvi if any conversion is needed.

You're only other worry is whether your player will accept CDR(W)s and play VCDs. Most will!

You could also use something like WINAVI as mentioned above, this would convert the file back to a DVD and you wouldn't need to split it, you would have to transfer this to a DVD(+/-) however as opposed to CDR - for filme etc, that are in MPEG format, I usually convert with WINAVI and then burn with DVD santa, find it much quicker (and stable) than Nero, takes about 45-60 minutes all told to convert and burn a 2 hour film.
