There is no single answer to this problem .. but you could try having a bath instead, going for a run, go on the internet .. really anything that will make you forget about eating.
you could try moving your main meal to slightly later in the evening which should help stave off hunger pains and failing this try drinking a lot of water once you start to feel hungry....this will help your health as well as we are supposed to drink 4 to 5 pints of water a day..this will fill you stomach up and leave you feeling full.
You could try banning snacks from the house and chocolate.
What I try to do is to have a cup of tea or better still coffee (if you like it) Coffee is a hunger supressant and should make the tummy rumbles disapear for a little longer than nothing at all. Brushing your teeth sometimes works for me too or the sad alternative - go to bed and when you wake up in the morning you know you can have brekkie. : )
It depends what you are eating so late. I presume that you are concerned with weight issues, which every normal woman in the world is, and it a darn nuisance. If you are eating a sandwich or toast then do with out butter or margarine, it isn't as hard as people think. If it is chocolate biscuits then switch to a plain unchocolate one. Apples and banana's are filling although when it's winter, its a little hard. Plain crackers, (check the fat content) and tomatoes would be fine. If you do still eat at night and you don't wnat too, do some exercise like walking, running or ride a bike. Best of luck. Been there done that.
Similarly, assuming weight gain is your concern: eating any fruit (local or imported) or raw vegetables (carrots, lettuce, cabbage, etc.) in whatever quantity will add effectively zero fat to your body. This together with drinking water (still, not fizzy, and not flavoured or containing sugar/sweetener) as already suggested will keep you healthy as well as avoiding obesity. Remember to eat some carbohydrates and protein during regular meals, otherwise you can suffer malnutrition.
Don't buy snacky things such as biscuits and crisps and have a big meal at tea time then nothing till the next morning its easier said than done though especially if you got kids
