Do i have to pay

Bought a car in December 2009, it had been garaged for a year, so before purchase i MOT'd vehicle at my expense. passed mot and agreed with seller (friend of a friend) to spread payments beginning January 2010. However on third journey in car the CAM belt snapped. This has caused the car to be a write off as repairs are not worthwhile (i.e. more value than purchase price) do i have to pay

afraid so - you bought a second-hand car, it broke down, it happens. Always bad luck if it happens the day after you got it; but if you sold a car and it later broke down would you feel obliged to give the buyer his money back?

I'm surprised that the cost of cam-belt and replacement is MORE than the car..........what sort of car is it ? What prices have you been quoted for the cam-belt replacement ?

Jack - I take it you don't know anything about cars.

Running the engine for any significant time after the cam belt snaps causes the engine to be rebuilt. Cam belts should be replaced at regular intervals.

How exactly do you run an engine at all after the cam belt has broken? let alone for a significant time!

Always a bad idea buying a car from someone you know or vice versa. One way to ruin a good friendship.

It reminds me of a post I put on here, ( Just ask) a few weeks ago, & to my amazement I got criticized, If you would have asked advice about this car Megamoo you would have saved yourself a lot of money, (This is directed to the Critical mob) not you Megamoo.
