Can I have some suggestions please. I moved to a new city in January, and am keen to meet lots of new friends. However, my work hours are quite anti-social - 10.30am to 8.30pm on average, Mon to Fri.

Looking for a hobby that will help me meet people around my age (am male and 30) and possibly some social interaction. Quite like sport, but already belong to a gym. Any thoughts on something I could fit in given my hours, so at least I can meet new people and have something interesting to talk about?

Has anyone got a hobby that has helped them do all these things?

You might want to check into volunteer work in your community. There is a Special Olympics in London and other major cities, and you can probably volunteer on Saturdays. Special Olympics covers a variety of sports for kids.

At many volunteer places, a comraderie develops among everyone - the volunteers, staff, and kids. You'll find yourself doing lots of things with them, some official, some off the clock, and you'll probably make some life-long friends and perhaps a significant other! The nice thing is that this group of people will return week after week, so if you miss a chance to speak to somebody, you always have another chance.

Much better way to meet folks than the bar scene, I think.

This link is for London, but there's a locator on the site for other cities.
