Veterinary medications

My little feline monster has asthma. For the last six months he has been getting monthly steroid jags - whilst this is easy for me the long term side-effects are pretty nasty. He is only 4½ years old.

Today I took him to the vet (left the vet £175 poorer but his insurance will cover the cost) and we picked up an 'Aerokat' (http://www.breatheazy.co.uk/aerokat-product-

and two inhalers.

One of the inhalers is pretty cheap but the other (the one we have to use every day) is pretty expensive. The vet recommended checking to see if I could get one cheaper on-line. The vet charges £10 for a prescription.

Is there any site that I should avoid when purchasing this inhaler and are there any sites that are good and reliable? How long does the vets prescription last - the vet that I saw was unsure about this.

I appreciate any help or information that anybody could give me.

Some vets charge to write out the prescription, but it would obviously work out cheaper if he prescribed enough inhalers in one prescription to last a few months. I use pet meds that have always been very reliable.

I think that the vet has to see an animal every six months to continue to prescribe for it, so I'm guessing that that's how long a prescription would last

I have used petmedic pharmacy, canine chemist and bestpet. Compare prices, all are ok to use.

Thanks for all the info - I will have a look see over the weekend.

The insurance covers up to £4000 for his asthma, we have spent less than £500 getting x-rays etc. But he is only a 'baby' at 4½ and I want to be cautious with my spending.

My vet is a good practice and their prices are pretty reasonable compared to the national average, but even still it is expensive and I am glad that I have the insurance for him and his fighting partner/sister.

Our furry ones are such a worry - and such a delight too.
