Hi All,

Whilst I have a full peugeot service history I'm loathe to fork out 230 to replace my front brake pads and discs. Is it worth going for peugeot parts or does it not matter too much if I take it to my local garage who will do it for 140?

hi, well i say what would be cheaper would be to do it yourself! i done mine cost me about 20, i admit i only have a small engine saxo so the brakes arent anything huge but still it could probably save you a lot of money! only downside, you dont have any record of it!

not that much difference in the cost saxo_boi, it's mainly the popular stuff that's cheap. it's fine if you don't need a service history and with respect, if the car is above three, four years old it's not really expected to have the book fully stamped. a wad of reciepts showing money spent would be good enough for me.

I agree with v64paul - no need to use a dealer.

It's an easy job if you have some ability to use a spanner or two. Buy a Haynes or other workshop manual, get the bits and crack on with it !

You'll have the pride of having done it yourself and probably save yourself the best part of 200. If in any doubt however, get some advice from someone or use your local garage.

If your local garage uses Peugeot approved parts he can now legally do the job and stamp your service history.

Cheers for the advice - I'm now getting one of my workmate's fiancee to do the work cash in hand (he's a mechanic) and I'm going to watch and learn. Should be a decent result all round.

I agree with the other lads. I've had this exact same problem and had mine fixed this weeke.d. Bought 2 brake discs and 2 brake pads for 30 and a mate fitted them for 20.

I kept my receipts as proof that I've invested in the car to keep it in good condition. Any future buyers can then see this.
