There was a 1970 film called Sole Survivor. It was to do with the Air Force.

James Herbert wrote a book called The Survivor, in which the sole survivor of a plane crash turns out to be a ghost (i.e. dead) after all. It was made into a film in Australia starring Robert Powell. Does this help?
