My friend took out a contract for mobile broadband and got a free laptop with it. She took it out under her name as her bf had a bad credit rating so could not do it himself so bullied her into it. He hasn't made any of the monthly payments for it and now the creditors are threatening to take my friend to court if she doesn't pay it. Can she refuse to pay it stating that someone else was supposed to? I wasn't sure if she could or not!

No. It is her responsibility entirely. The contract is between her and the mobile phone company and her bf has nothing to do with it.
No way....I'm afraid the debt is hers especially when she was aware her bf had a dodgy credit rating.
The contracts in her name so the debt is hers. The company isn`t interested in a third party only the name they`ve got.
