whatever Glos police say or deny i know of an instance on Northamptonshire where a horse box was stolen and located on a wonderful travellers site,the owner was told the same story, 'it was a no go are' & they didnt want to antagonise the travellers.
Another news story in the same area was that a travellers site had been raided, armed police the lot, they recovered £40,000 worth of plant and equipment, no arrests were made and the police commented 'it was a successful operation'.......

gypsys here were seen walking towards their council provided site with property they had stolen from my parents garden.
They were seen by a retired police officer who called the station, and reported it, he even went as far to say exactly where the property had come from and to describe the theives.
My parents discovered the theft a few hours later and reported it to the police who said theyd not heard of any thefts in the area but that theyd keep an eye out. It wasnt until a few days later that my parents discovered about the phone call made at the time the property was taken.
A complaint to the police got nowhere, they still arent prepared to walk onto the site because of the risk to them

I used to be a credit controller (debt collector) for BT. A permanent travellers site was set up locally and under the Telecoms Act we had to provide phone service if requested and sure enough half of the site got phones in and never paid a single bill. I had to go to this site to try and recover the money, but after having the dogs set on me twice, and being threatened with a sawn-off I gave up.

How ironic that on the recent TV programme about gypsy/traveller weddings one of the women interviewed said they do not allow their children to mix with non-traveller children because we may teach them criminal ways and lead them into taking drugs....she obviously thinks travellers are pure as the driven snow and never break any laws.

A 30 year old traveller from a site near where I live brutally raped a 58 year terminally ill woman in a nursing home. He got out of prison after 18 months because the female judge thought that because of his low IQ (reading age of) a longer sentance "Would be returning to the dark ages, in view of his learning difficulties"

McM, that sounds like 3 years for a brutal rape. If so, did the Prosecution appeal the sentence as too lenient ? The accused's mental age is not really material in mitigation , since the public has to be protected against rapists who have not the mental capacity for self-control and who are therefore likely to be repeat offenders on release.
An amusing (or disturbing , or both) instance here is when a dog walked in to this house and made himself at home on the settee. I took him round the village hoping he'd take me to his owner's home. He confidently went to various garages and the backs of local houses but the occupiers and neighbours denied all knowledge of him.Then we noticed his collar was of a type used by travellers. I took him to the local travellers' campsite where he was greeted by name as a returning prodigal son. You may guess what he'd been doing with his owner, visiting garages and the backs of houses with such familiarity !

Booldawg even more 'hilarious' was the fact that a couple of years ago, through my hobby of genealogy. I discovered that one of my uncles had actually married into a romany family in Dorset.....

Craft if they are real Romany gipsies they lived off the land and did't leave piles of sh**t when they left, ITcosts councils thousands to clean up after them, one of my relatives had his tractor stolen, had to pay a fortune to the underworld to get it back, police didn't want to know. Tractor a port ready to ship to Ireland, to order. Gyppos of course.

there was a program on the TV a few months back where there were 2 familys camped in a field in the Glos area until they were finally arrested there was a mega crime wave, stately homes, armed robberies + more., millions involved. Once convicted and locked up the crime in the surrounding area dropped by 80%..

I love the phrase 'no go area'. It's almost always a hysterical over-reaction. I used to live in Oldham and people would harp on about the Asian no-go area. I used to walk through it twice a day, happy as you like - and I'm in no way 'hard'.

I saw that 'Big Fat Gyspy Wedding' programme the other day.

Must have been a tough one for the dailymailers. They're taught to hate gypsies but then it showed how their young women don't drink or smoke or have sex before marriage, and that divorce was almost unheard of. Arghhhhh.

Fred, the dog reminds me of something that happened here years ago.
My parents have a large garden. They have an acre of land so for someone to wander by accident into the back garden is impossible.

One day my mum looked out to see 2 young children (about 2 and 4 years old) playing on the swings in back garden. She quickly went out and asked where their mum was. The kids pointed to the front of house. My mum walked them around and sure enough, the mum was at bottom of drive, just standing there.

The mum didnt seem at all concerned that her children were missing or anything. She just walked away with them.

Now they were Pikeys from the local site. A few houses were broken into in the vicinty over those few weeks. Were the kids some way of finding out if people were home? After all, no-one is going to think the children were anything other than lost. Perhaps the dog was the same sort of scenario?

redcrx, they are very clever at hiding behind the kids, they know they would be to young to prosecute or to much hassle, i once caught one stealing a large socket set from a place i worked, followed him outside (after getting backup from a couple of large mechanics) when i confronted him he blamed it on the 2 year old girl with him, she couldnt pick it up if she had wanted to.Then i poined out the CCTV system, he mumble a few words then legged it...

redcrx, the dog was telling me that he'd been visiting the backs of houses, gardens and the garages, with his owner. What the owner had been doing 'walking his dog' in such a way, you've already guessed. If he was seen and challenged he'd say he was looking for/ had just retrieved, his dog. It was notable that the dog was selective.He didn't go to every back door, every garage, just a few, and each time he reacted in such a way that I thought he must live there, such was his interest and apparent familiarity with the address.
