Carbon monoxide alarms. Where should they be fitted?

I know that a fire alarm should be in a high position as smoke and heat rises. Should the alarm be on the ground floor, as I believe carbon monoxide is heavier than air, or on the same level as the bedrooms and the boiler?

Fitted one yesterday...the instructions said ''At least 5 mtrs from possible carbon monoxide source''.....fitted another type last week and that stated '' not nore than 5 mtrs. from possible source and not in kitchen''.
Forget any advice... other than...as others have already stated...
