Carbon monoxide alarms. Where should they be fitted?

Near any potential source of CO, like in the kitchen, or near a boiler - you need the earliest warning you can get.

the one I bought said it should be 5 metres away from the boiler, but the gasman told me off and made me move it closer. the boiler is in my son's bedroom, so the alarm is too.

apparently it doesn't matter how high it is as carbon monoxide floats in the air at any level. scary stuff!

This will be in a small terraced house where the boiler is in a cupboard near the top of the stairs.
I know that a fire alarm should be in a high position as smoke and heat rises. Should the alarm be on the ground floor, as I believe carbon monoxide is heavier than air, or on the same level as the bedrooms and the boiler?

The alarm will have instructions with it, just follow what they say.

I put mine near to the ceiling about 5ft from the cooker.

Fitted one yesterday...the instructions said ''At least 5 mtrs from possible carbon monoxide source''.....fitted another type last week and that stated '' not nore than 5 mtrs. from possible source and not in kitchen''.
Forget any advice... other than...as others have already stated...

Follow the instructions supplied by the manufacturer.

Wind blow back from outlet will cause condensation that can be seen on glass (windows & mirrors). View & see which rooms are most affected and install alarm for early warning.

Sorry, I put 5ft but meant 5mtrs from cooker. this darn metric system. Us-old erns eh?
