The popularity of the radio program led to the production of two movie serials in 1938 and 1939. The Lone Ranger was played by actors Lee Powell and Robert Livingston; Tonto was played by Chief Thundercloud (Victor Daniels) in both of the serials named The Lone Ranger (Lee Powell) and The Lone Ranger Rides Again (Robert Livingston). Jackanory, early in the radio series a program explained the the Lone Ranger was part of a team of Texas Rangers who were ambushed by the Butch Cavendish gang and he was the only survivor. We was badly wounded and nursed back to health by Tonto, who recognized him as a man (John Reid) who had earlier saved his life. So he was the one "Lone" Ranger... "A fiery horse with the speed of light! A cloud of dust and a hearty Hi, Ho Silver ... the Lone Ranger"...
