A problem with damp

My son has an end of terrace house, built over 100 years ago.the inside wall of the front downstairs room is extremely damp,this wall does not adjoin the neighbouring property.
The dampness affects the wallpaper, which is soaking wet and mould grows on the walls.
He has a bookcase , not against the wall, a good space between ,and the items on the shelves are also damp.
Last year in an attempt to put this right , he stripped the wall . painted it with an anti mould paint , an later emulsioned it.
the wall inside is now as wet as ever.
On the exterior of this wall there are air bricks which are so low down that they are almost on the ground.
The outside area of this wall is concrete , a pathway , along the front and a small garden strip with chippings to the side.

I`m no expert but, your sons problem could be the `separation bars` between the outside wall and the inner wall, where water is traversing along them into the inner wall and then soaking into the plasterwork inside the house. I know where this has happened to a friends house.

Evening Brenda - I can sympathise - we have a wall in our study that has the same problem - its behind our desk and last summer Mr. Den did the same as your son, we stripped and painted the wall with an anti mould paint. Low and behold the same problem occurred again this winter. My neighbour has the same problem, in the same area in the same room of her bungalow.

Not sure what the answer is, but if you find one, please let me know.

By the way, how is your arm - is it getting better ?
