Had it have been 1st April I would have ignored this story, but it is too laughable to be missed.

Hadn't they notice that McDonald's print a warning on their drinking vessels, that hot liquids could scold, (or words to that effect)

It's a great example of frivolous legislation - until you look at things the newspapers didn't report

I notice that the mail also quotes the headline figure for the damages in the McDonalds case and doesn't bother it's readers with the fact that the compensation was cut on apeal from $2.9 Million by over 80%.

Now if I can find that in under a minute - why can't the Mail journalists?

Yes, the injuries are terrible but doesnt change the facts regardless of whether it was a slight scald or serious burns; surely a 17 year old can be expected to handle a cup of tea without emptying the contents over his lap? Gross stupidity/clumsiness is not McDonalds responsibility.

Of course it is boold. It's against the law for you to take responsibility for anything nowadays. Especially when it's so easy to make a living by screwing over others.

I've not clicked the link but surely this is an ancient story ? I recall discussing the suing of McDonalds over a hot beverage on a Net forum many years ago. You sure it isn't just a 'wind up' ?

The answer is of course that tea is made by brewing leaves at 100° C, so any purchaser should know that barring a slight cooling due to cup & milk, that is the temperature it is sold at. To warn of it isn't a sin, but does smack of nannying grown adults and should not be necessary. The owner (i.e. buyer) should take the necessary precautions.

It also means that, because the inmates took over the asylum many years ago, I'm sure it is legally all the seller's fault for just being there.

Perhaps they couldn't be ars*d, it is totally irrelevant to the main story, did you expect them to print the whole of the appeal court's transcript?
