If i put my car into a different garage after failing one MOT can that garage see that i've already had it tested, because it's all on computer records now?
Unsure but makes sense that's the case. However it won't solve the initial problem and they find more than one fault. If u r unsure of the fault given at it's first MOT then ask more about it and if possible ask 2 c the fault in question. More and more MOT stations r being tested by the DfT to ensure they r thorough AND fair!
Failed due to corrosion on both rear suspension arms, but the arms look okay, it seems more damage will be done trying to change them due to the rust around where they are bolted to, also the cost of labour will be more than the parts! Thought another garage may not fail them? The car runs so well seems a shame to write it off!
the car is obviously unsafe.. get it fixed or scrap it..it does'nt matter if the car is running well..it has to run safely..if your suspension failed hitting one of the millions of potholes around at the moment..it could cause you to crash..scrap it
Before the days of computerised MOT's, I had a car failed because the garage said the handbrake cable had snapped. I knew it hadn't, as the car I had (A Citroen BX) had a way of taking up the handbrake cable quite easily, so I did this (about a 30 second job), took it to another garage and it passed OK.
Don't take the gamble, even if somewhere else re-MOTs it, they may well find the same problem.
Get a quote from a 'friendly mechanic'/single outlet garage for a welding job and take it from there. All may not be lost.
Over the years, I’ve lost count o the number of times I have taken my car to another MOT station because the reason(s) given for the failure(s) were complete ***.
That said, I might have had to get a wire brush out to clean off surface rust – or drive a few miles with my foot on the brake to clean up the discs.
Although this was before everything was computerised – what gain would it be to a tester to check out past failures, when you might well have replaced parts, or otherwise worked on the car?
