Running 30 day trial, and would like a NON-Norton opinion

Do you know why, each time I start PC I get a message bubble over the icon tray (lower right corner of screen) which says, "Click icon in tray to "run scan"

It is somewhat difficult to double-click it, and single click makes no difference. anyway, once I get it's attention, it gives option, 'run scan' or 'continue'

If I click on run scan it says "NU silent full scan" running

If I select continue, PC seems to proceed as normal..........

So, is it necessary to run it each start up? Also, I use Google Chrome browser, and each scan clears all my saved passwords (only save passwords for unvaluable sites -- anything that can hurt me, I always make sure to require a log in each time I use it.

Thanks for any responses

OS

and is it necessary every startup.

Running Norton Utilities on Win 7 is a bit like putting Red-Ex in your fuel tank. It serves no purpose, and costs you money

I've heard similar stories rojash

But, I thought I would give it a try for thirty days, and hopefully discover why you and several others have told me it's useless. However, to be truthful, I cannot see why.

by the way, what exactly is Red-Ex?

Yea, I know, my education is well out of date.

More importantly what can you see that is useful about it? People don't normally buy things because they can't see they are useless, they buy things that they CAN see are useful.
Red-Ex is (or was) a fuel additive that you could buy in the filling station and add to your fuel tank when you refuelled. It was supposed to improve performance and clean the engine - just like the additives that are already included in petrol by the manufacturers.

Well, I'll go to the foot of our stairs, rojash,

Excellent comparison example.

Thank you for taking the time to explain it.

OS....... who is now a little bit wiser and a lot more sure that 'He don't know everything'
Running these sort of utilities is really a waste of resources and time.
You don't need it.
