One theory in today's papers is that he is back inside because he duffed her up.
But ... he has a girlfriend ??????????
Must have been a heck of a first date ...
"So tell me a bit about yourself."
"Well, I enjoy reading. I support Liverpool. I once beat someone to death with a brick, and then tied them to railway track. I like cats. I enjoy ballet."
"Oh, wow, stop ... did you say you like cats? I like cats, too!"

Did anyone see Heavenly Creatures, about the two schoolgirls who killed one of their mothers with a brick in a sock? They served a few years and were given new lives. One works with horses somewhere in the south east and has kept her privacy. The other one is a bestselling crime novelist. Would there actually be anything to be gained by putting them both behind bars again, or is to everyone's benefit that they remain productive members of society?
bobbi, yes, Mary Bell is another example. It can be done. Unfortunately you don't know if rehabilitation has succeeded until you try it out. So when they thought Venables was rehabilitated they let him out to see if they were right. It appears he wan't. But Thompson may be. Bell was too. In the Heavenly Creatures case you have two people who did something wicked when young, have repented, paid the penalty, and become useful members of society. That seems like the ideal outcome to me. In particular, rather than me paying to keep them in prison, *their* taxes now help keep prisons going, just as mine do.
